Antiques-All the way from Chettinad

After a much enthusiastic discussion in the Bangalore Craft Lovers group on FB, I had to post this...

For all the craft/art/antique/decor enthusiasts out there. These vessels and many more such authentic antiques(furnitures, mirrors,tables etc) are sold by a lady called Saradha. She hails from Chettinad and goes around collecting these things from various places in Tamilnadu. She doesn't have a store anywhere and the sale is only through such melas and fairs.

Look at those name inscriptions

If you look at the utensils and dabbas from our mom's and grandmom's collection, you will find names inscribed on them...very discreet, yet obvious. There were mainly 2 reasons for it-one is that this would help in dividing their stuff equally among their children. Yes...the inscription was done exactly when it was bought from the store or from the vendor who came home every month.

Secondly, when they sent the vessel/dibbi to their neighbour/friend with goodies in it, the inscription helps in discriminating their vessels from the others..thereby gently reminding the friend/neighbour to return it. Intelligent eh?

There were a lot more stuff at the stall..but I just managed to click the utensils and vessels. More captures next time.

Dilli Haat at its Best

There was a mela happening at Dilli Haat last week and as soon as my friend P spotted the details in the newspaper, she wanted to go.

And who gave her company?? None other than your's truly.

Pen Holders/Stands made from mother boards..Awesome creativity isn't it? These lovely pieces are done by an NGO for underprivileged children. I was amazed by the kind of recycling ideas they had.

Now, this was the stall that attracted me the most. Look at those clay creations..Aren't they so different from what we normally see in the markets?

A Fragrant Beginning

Rainy day - and you feel like getting drenched and sip a hot cuppa,

Walk through the flower market - and you are tempted to buy atleast a bunch,

Mom's kitchen counter - dig into all those goodies, pakoras,wafers yummmm

Grandma's pooja thali - lo..we are in a prayerful mood

Peep into the nearby baker's place - muffins and chocolate milk..anyone??

Do you know what these have in common..a single thread that runs through all these??

Yes!! Its the olfactory stimulation or in simple words.. the aromas.

As we experience this, a bookmarking is done somewhere in our brain, connecting the aroma and the event/person/place.  This we remember throughout our life. Such is the wonder of aroma.

Why such a long introduction?? 

Coz we are going to talk about aroma- therapy and otherwise.
